CNY STC Officers:
Elaine Montambeau - President
Elaine Montambeau has 15 years experience as a graphic designer and
more specifically as an information designer. She earned her B.F.A.
from the University of Michigan where she studied graphic design and
industrial design. Elaine finds STC an important organization to be involved with because of the focus to create
user-centered products.
John McGloon - Vice President, and Program Manager
John McGloon is a veteran technical communicator with a B.A. in English from Hobart College and a M.A. in
Technical Communication from Boise State University. After retiring from the US Army, John has written technical
documents for diverse subject matter including electrical power, economics, information technology, biology, and
medicine. In recent years, almost all of his writing and management has been exclusively in regulated environments.
John is enrolled in Syracuse University's Instructional Design graduate program and Rochester Institute of Technology's
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Program.
John served as the Manager of Documentation and Training, National Headquarters, American Red Cross in
Washington D.C. from 2000-2002, and Manager of Information Design for Biomedical Headquarters, American
Red Cross from 2003-2006. His current role is Supervisor of Technical Publications for Welch Allyn. John's team
has hosted numerous STC events at Welch Allyn's world-class training facility, the Lodge. John has been a long
time STC member and has participated in the Snake River Chapter, the Washington DC Chapter, and the Central
NY Chapter. John is an avid guitarist for That Seventies Band and a member of STC (National's) house band,
The Rough Drafts that plays annually at National Convention. He also plays lead guitar for the Syracuse
Vineyard Worship Team. John lives in Marcellus with his wife Shelley and their four sons.
Russell
L. Kahn - Treasurer
He holds a PhD in information design from the Rockefeller
College School of
Public Policy at the State University. He's been teaching
design and
portfolio development as a teacher at SUNYIT where he
is an Associate Professor and Chair of Communication.
He teaches design,
photography, copyright law, visual communication, and
online portfolio
design at the graduate level in the schools Information
and Design and
Technology Program (which he directs) and at the undergraduate
level in the
school's Professional and Technical Communication program.
